One of the fundamental results in the theory of coalgebras is the locally finiteness of associative coalgebras (i.e., all the finitely generated subcoalgebras are finite dimensional). This is also true for some other classes of coalgebras (for example, alternative and Jordan coalgebras are locally finite), but it does not hold for all of them (for example, right-alternative and right-symmetric coalgebras are not locally finite). In the paper under review the authors give a unified construction of a non-locally finite Novikov coalgebra, a non-locally finite Lie coalgebra, and a non-locally finite Jordan supercoalgebra from a non-locally finite commutative and associative differential coalgebra \(C\). By applying the dual of the Gelfand-Dorfman construction to \(C\) the authors then obtain a non-locally finite Novikov coalgebra. Moreover, the commutator coalgebra of this Novikov coalgebra is the non-locally finite Lie coalgebra given by \textit{W. Michaelis} in his Ph.D. Thesis (see [Adv. Math. 38, 1--54 (1980; Zbl 0451.16006)]). Finally, the application of an analogue of the Kantor construction for supercoalgebras to \(C\) yields a non-locally finite Jordan supercoalgebra. Another example of a non-locally finite Jordan supercoalgebra was given previously by the third author of the present paper in [Sib. Mat. Zh. 44, No. 1, 87--111 (2003); translation in Sib. Math. J. 44, No. 1, 73--92 (2003; Zbl. 1049.17029)]. Now consider the graded dual \(S\) of the simple differential algebra of polynomials in one variable over a field of characteristic zero which is an infinite-dimensional simple commutative and associative differential coalgebra. Similarly, to the previous paragraph, by applying the dual of the Gelfand-Dorfman construction to \(S\) one obtains an example of an infinite-dimensional simple Novikov algebra. Its commutator coalgebra is also simple and coincides with the graded dual of the one-sided infinite-dimensional Witt algebra. Finally, an application of the dual of the Kantor construction to \(S\) yields an infinite-dimensional simple Jordan supercoalgebra. In the last section the authors correct the flaws in the example of a non-locally finite right-alternative coalgebra constructed by the first author in [``Right-alternative and right-symmetric coalgebras'', South-Kaz. Sci. Educ. 19, No. 12, 155--163 (2000)].
