Let \(L(s)\) be an \(L\)-function in the Selberg class satisfying the estimate \[ \sum_{\substack{\gamma_k,\gamma_l\le T\\ |\gamma_k-\gamma_l|<\frac c{\log T}}}1 \ll T\log T\quad(T\to\infty), \] where \(\gamma_k\) and \(\gamma_l\) denote the imaginary parts of nontrivial zeros of \(L(s)\). Put \(\sigma_L=\max(1/2,1-1/d_L)\) with \(d_L\) the degree of \(L(s)\), and denote by \(K_L\) the class of the compact subsets of the strip \(D_L=\{s\in\mathbb C:\sigma_L<\sigma<1\}\) with connected complements. For \(K\in K_L\), we also denote by \(H_{0L}(K)\) the class of continuous nonvanishing functions on \(K\) and analytic in the interior of \(K\). The main theorem of this article asserts for any fixed \(h>0\), \(\varepsilon>0\), \(K\in K_L\) and \(f(s)\in H_{0L}(K)\) that \[ \liminf_{N\to\infty}\frac1N\#\{1\le k\le N:\sup_{s\in K}|L(s+ih\gamma_k)-f(s)|<\varepsilon\}>0. \] Moreover, it is proved that the limit \[ \lim_{N\to\infty}\frac1N\#\{1\le k\le N:\sup_{s\in K}|L(s+ih\gamma_k)-f(s)|<\varepsilon\}>0 \] exists for all but at most countably many \(\varepsilon>0\).
