The integral transform given by the convolution of a measure with the singular kernel \(z\mapsto \frac{z^k}{|z|^{k+1}}\) is usually known as Huovinen transform. In this very interesting paper the authors prove that, if \(k\) is a fixed odd number, \(\mu\) is a finite Borel measure such that \[ \limsup_{r\to 0} \frac{\mu(B(z,r))}{r}\in (0,+\infty) \] for \(\mu\)-a.e. \(z\in\mathbb{C}\), and the Huovinen transform associated to \(\mu\) exists in the principal value (that is, the limit \[ \lim_{r\to 0} \int_{|z-\omega|>r} \frac{(z-\omega)^k}{|z-\omega|^{k+1}}d\mu(\omega) \] exists for \(\mu\)-a.e. \(z\in\mathbb{C}\)), then the measure \(\mu\) is rectifiable. As \(k=1\), this result was known; it was proved by \textit{X. Tolsa} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 128, No. 7, 2111--2119 (2000; Zbl 0944.30022)], and then in [J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 7, 1811--1863 (2008; Zbl 1153.28003)]. The proof in this paper follows, at least in part, Tolsa's schemes. When \(k\ge 3\), the curvature method does not work and many additional difficulties arise, some of which are bypassed by the authors by means of a novel decomposition of the measure and the development of a modified density.
