This paper gives an overview of the UCT problem for nuclear C*-algebras. It contains a list of reduction theorems which allow for various reformulations of the UCT problem. It also lists classes of examples of C*-algebras which are known to satisfy the UCT. Finally, the authors outline a strategy to tackle the UCT problem, developed by \textit{R. Willett} and \textit{G.-L. Yu} [``Controlled KK-theory. I: a Milnor exact sequence'', Preprint (2020), \url{arXiv:2011.10906}; ``The UCT for \(C^\ast\)-algebras with finite complexity'', Preprint (2021), \url{arXiv:2104.10766}], based on the concepts of decomposable and weakly decomposable C*-algebras.
