The present paper deals with the simultaneous approximation of real points by rational points with the error of approximation given by the functions of ``non-standard'' heights, analogues of Khintchine and Jarník-Besicovitch theorems, and the Fishman and Simmons problem. Notions such as the main question in simultaneous Diophantine approximations, the standard height function and the exponent of irrationality, and the size of certain exceptions in terms of Hausdorff dimension, as well as the mass transference principle and auxiliary facts in continued fraction expansions, are considered.
