Consider a smooth complex projective variety \(X\) and a vector bundle \(E\) on it, of rank \(>1\). The main result of the paper under review (see Theorem 1.1) provides a description of the closed cone \(\overline{\text{NE}}({\mathbb P}(E))\) of curves of the projective bundle \({\mathbb P}(E)\). To be precise: for any irreducible curve \(C \subset X\), consider the restriction of \(E\) to its normalization, say \({\mathbb P}(\eta^*_C(E_{|C}))\), and its closed cone of curves; the closure of the sum of the images of these cones in \(\overline{\text{NE}}({\mathbb P}(E))\), for \(C\) in the set of all irreducible curves in \(X\), is shown to be \(\overline{\text{NE}}({\mathbb P}(E))\). This description is used, via duality, in the study of the nef cone of some particular surfaces (with finite polyhedral cone of curves, spanned by irreducible curves) and some particular vector bundles on them. As an application, the authors calculate the Seshadri constants of semistable ample vector bundles with vanishing discriminant on some special ruled surfaces at special points (see Theorem 4.2).
