This papers offers a substantial complement to the theory of the Navier-Stokes equations in scaling invariant spaces \(L^{n,\infty}(\mathbb R^n)\). The main result is that mild solutions become the strong solutions in \(BC((0,T),L^{n,\infty}(\mathbb R^n))\) under a condition on the external forces only, irrespective of the initial data. Difficulties in proofs are related to the fact that the Stokes semigroup is not strongly continuous, and the main result was obtained with a modification of the Fujita-Kato iteration scheme.
