The present research deals with Bedford-McMullen carpets and their Hausdorff, box, and intermediate dimensions. The intermediate dimension \(\dim_{\theta}E\) of a set \(E\) interpolates between the Hausdorff and box dimensions of this set using the parameter \(\theta \in [0,1]\). In the survey of this paper, the main attention is given to dimension interpolations and Bedford-McMullen carpets (non-self-similar planar carpets). The Hausdorff and box dimensions of a subset of \(\mathbb R^d\), as well as the main difference between these dimensions are described. Also, intermediate dimensions are considered. The authors present the following: ``For a Bedford-McMullen carpet \(\Lambda\) with distinct Hausdorff and box dimensions, we show that its intermediate dimension \(\dim_{\theta}\Lambda\) is strictly less than the box dimension of \(\Lambda\) for every \(\theta < 1\). Moreover, the derivative of the upper bound is strictly positive at \(\theta= 1\). This answers a question of Fraser; however, determining a precise formula for \(\dim_{\theta}\Lambda\) still remains a challenging problem.'' The main result and its corollaries, used techniques, as well as connections with related known results are explained. Finally, a discussion on several further questions, which are related to the presented results, is given.
