The paper deals with periodic solutions for a second-order potential system of the form \[Mx^{\prime \prime }(t)+Cx^{\prime }(t)+Kx(t)=-\nabla U\left( x\left( t\right) \right) +f(t).\] There are given \(L^{r\text{ }}\)-estimates of the periodic solutions depending on the properties of the potential \(U.\) The estimates are then used to prove nonexistence results of periodic orbits assuming that the gradient of the potential satisfies a certain upper bound in the domain of validity, and a certain amplitude of the external forcing \(f\). The results are illustrated by some examples.
