The authors study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to equation \(-\operatorname{div} (A^{\varepsilon} \nabla u_{\varepsilon}) - \omega^2 u_{\varepsilon}=f\) in a periodicity cell of \(\mathbb R^d\). It is assumed that the matrix \(A^{\varepsilon}\) is periodic, non-negative symmetric; \(f \in L^2(\mathbb R^d)\). The homogenization procedure yields equation \(-\operatorname{div} (A \nabla u ) - B(\omega^2) u=f\) as \(\varepsilon\) tends to zero, where \(B(\omega^2)\) is a frequency-dependent operator in \(L^2(\mathbb R^d)\). The authors discuss the spectral problem \(-\operatorname{div} (A(\omega^2) \nabla u ) =\omega^2 u\) when \(B\) is reduced to the scalar operator of multiplication.
