\textit{R. Speicher} [Math. Ann. 298, No. 4, 611--628 (1994; Zbl 0791.06010); Combinatorial theory of the free product with amalgamation and operator-valued free probability theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1998; Zbl 0935.46056)] has shown that the free moment-cumulant formulas follow the same pattern as the classical one, provided that we replace the lattice of set partitions with the lattice of noncrossing partitions. On the other hand, two of present authors propose a different approach to moment-cumulant relations, by considering moments and free cumulants as images of a certain Hopf algebra character, respectively infinitesimal character, the moment-cumulant relations being encoded through some exponential-logarithm correspondences implied by fixpoint equations involving so-called half-shuffle products. The aim of this paper is to uncover the connection between the two approaches to moment-cumulant formulas. To this end, the authors prove that the two approaches are determined each by their operad of noncrossing partitions, then explain how the two operads interact at the level of the corresponding bialgebras, and in the end present comparisons between the two settings mentioned in the above.
