Absolutely \(p\)-summing operators form a prominent class within the theory of linear mappings on Banach spaces. This has motivated the development of a large number of multilinear extensions of this concept. Multiple \(p\)-summing, absolutely \(p\)-summing, strongly \(p\)-summing, \(p\)-dominated multilinear operators are some of the attempts at transposing the spirit (and the valid properties) of \(p\)-summability to the multilinear world. In this article, a new approach to this multilinear notion is proposed: Lipschitz \(p\)-summing multilinear operators. They are defined through the following procedure. Given a continuous \(n\)-linear operator \[T:X_1\times \cdots \times X_n\to Y,\] there is an associated linear mapping \[\widehat{T}:X_1\otimes_\pi \cdots \otimes_\pi X_n\to Y.\] Denoting by \(\Sigma\) the set \[\Sigma=\{x_1\otimes \cdots \otimes x_n\in X_1\otimes_\pi \cdots \otimes_\pi X_n \}\] (called the Segre cone of the spaces \(X_i\)), the operator \(\widehat{T}\) gives rise to a Lipschitz function \[f_T=\widehat{T}|_\Sigma:\Sigma\to Y\] which is named \(\Sigma\)-operator. A~multilinear operator \(T\) is said to be {Lipschitz \(p\)-summing} when its associated \(\Sigma\)-operator \(f_T\) is absolutely \(p\)-summing, that is, when there exist a constant \(c>0\) such that, for every \(i =1,\dots, k\) and every \(u_i, v_i\in\Sigma\), the following inequality holds: \[ \left(\sum_{i=1}^k \|f_T(u_i)- f_T(v_i)\|^p\right)^{1/p}\le c \left(\sup_{\varphi\in B_{\mathcal L(\Sigma)}} \sum_{i=1}^k |\varphi(u_i)- \varphi(v_i)|^p\right)^{1/p}. \] The least constant \(c\) satisfying the condition above is denoted as \(\pi_p^{\mathrm{Lip}}(T)\). The set \[\Pi_p^{\mathrm{Lip}}(X_1,\dots, X_n;Y)\] of all Lipschitz \(p\)-summing \(n\)-linear operators is a Banach space with the norm \(\pi_p^{\mathrm{Lip}}\). The strength of this new proposed multilinear extension of a classical linear class is that it satisfies natural generalizations of the main intrinsic properties of the set of absolutely \(p\)-summing linear mappings: Pietsch's domination and factorization theorems, inclusion theorem, Grothendieck's coincidence theorem, weak Dvoretzky-Rogers' theorem, Lindenstrauss-Pełczyńsky's theorem, all hold for this class. Also, the authors define a reasonable cross norm \(d_p^{\mathrm{Lip}}\) on \(X_1\otimes \cdots \otimes X_n\otimes Y\), which resembles the classical Chevet-Saphar tensor norm, and allow them to describe \(\Pi_p^{\mathrm{Lip}}(X_1,\dots, X_n;Y)\) as a dual of a tensor space. Relationships with other classes of multilinear operators (such as compact, Dunford-Pettis, Hilbert-Schmidt, strongly \(p\)-summing) are also obtained.
