The article focuses on an optimal control problem subject to a moving boundary fluid-structure interaction. The fluid state satisfies the Navier-Stokes equations, the behavior being described by the velocity $u$ and pressure $p$. The elastic structure is described by a damped linear wave equation, the elastic displacement is denoted by $\omega$. The moving boundary fluid-structure interaction is described by a distributed control $f$. In Lagrangian coordinates, the fluid -structure interaction mathematical model takes the following form: \[ v_t-\operatorname{div}((\mathcal{D}v)aa^T)+a^T\nabla q=f_f\eta\text{ in }\Omega_fx(0,T),\] \[\operatorname{div}(av) = a^T..\mathcal{D}v=0\text{ in }\Omega _fx(0, T), \] \[v=0\text{ in } \Gamma _f x(0, T), \] \[\omega _{tt}-\operatorname{div}(\mathcal{D}\omega)+\alpha\omega _t+\beta \omega=f_e\text{ in }\Omega _ex(0,T),\] \[\omega_t = v\text{ in }\Gamma_c x(0,T),\] $(\mathcal{D}\omega)n = (\mathcal{D}v)aa^Tn-q a^Tn$, in $\Gamma_c x(0,T)$. The goal is to minimize the vorticity inside the fluid in the case of an elastic body moving and deforming within it, using the distributed control f on the system. The cost functional is defined as: \[ j(u) =\int\limits_0^T\int\limits_ {\Omega_f}|\nabla xu|^2dxdt +\|f \|^2. \] The constrained drag minimization problem formulates as: find $\min j(u[f])$, for $f\in U_{ad}$, where $U_{ad}$ is the set of admissible controls. One refers often to the following papers of some of the authors: [Nonlinearity 27, No. 3, 467--499 (2014; Zbl 1286.35272); Nonlinearity 30, No. 2, 848--898 (2017; Zbl 1357.35299)]. In the third section of the present article a list of basic estimates , Stokes and wave estimates, prior energy estimates, inspired from these papers is presented and in the fourth section a background for the construction of solution is provided. An impressive number of 21 Assumption are extensively explained and in the fifth section preliminary estimates on forcing terms are obtained. A first main result is the proof of a long-time existence and uniqueness of the solution to the considered model. The second main result refers to the existence and characterization of an optimal control, and the proof is shown in the last section of this article. A very interesting work in a domain with large applicability.
