Let \(A\) be an algebra. This article introduces the notion of Rota-Baxter paired module, which are triples \((M,P,T)\), with \(M\) a left \(A\)-module, \(P:A\rightarrow A\) et \(T:M\longrightarrow M\) such that \[ P(a)\cdot T(m)=T(P(a)\cdot m)+T(a\cdot T(m))+\lambda T(am), \] where \(\lambda\) is an element in the base ring of \(A\). Note that it is not required that \((A,P)\) is a Rota-Baxter algebra. A pair \((M,T)\) is called a generic paired Rota-Baxter module if for any \(P:A\longrightarrow A\), \((M,P,T)\) is a Rota-Baxter paired module. Basic properties of these objects are proved here, generalizing the well-known properties on Rota-Baxter algebras. It is also proved that, with a complementary condition of \(A\)-linearity, \((M,T)\) is a generic paired Rota-Baxter module if, and only if, \(T^2=-\lambda T\). In the second half of the paper, numerous examples are given from the theory of Hopf algebras and their generalizations (weak Hopf algebras, Long bial-gebras, quasitriangular Hopf algebras, weak Hopf modules, dimodules and Doi-Hopf modules). The underlying algebra \(A\) is \(H\) itself or its dual algebra.
