Suppose that \(n>1\) is a dimension. Let \(S^{2n-1}\) and \(\mathbb{B}^{n}\) be the unit sphere and the unit ball in \(\mathbb{C}^n\), respectively. The paper is devoted to the study of algebras of Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space \(H^2(S^{2n-1})\). It is shown that \(H^2(S^{2n-1})\) can be represented as a direct sum of weighted Bergman spaces \(\mathcal{A}_p^2(\mathbb{B}^{n-1})\), where \(p\) runs through \(\mathbb{Z}_+\). Hence Toeplitz operators acting on \(H^2(S^{2n-1})\) can be represented as direct sums of Toeplitz operators acting on corresponding Bergman spaces. This observation allows the authors to use the results already known for Bergman spaces (see [\textit{R. Quiroga-Barranco} and \textit{N. Vasilevski}, Integral Equations Oper. Theory 59, No. 3, 379--419 (2007; Zbl 1144.47024)]) and to describe a variety of nontrivial commutative \(C^*\)-algebras and Banach algebras generated by Toeplitz operators on the multidimensional Hardy space \(H^2(S^{2n-1})\). A sequel of this article has appeared in [the authors, Operator Theory: Advances and Applications 282, 403--422 (2021; Zbl 1494.47128)].
