The aim of this paper is to describes a class of spectral curves and gives explicit formulas for the Darboux coordinates of the Hitchin systems of types \(A_l\), \(B_l\), and \(C_l\) on hyperelliptic curves. The current state of the problem in the case of the systems of type \(D_l\) is described. The description agrees with the Lax representation of Hitchin systems, which was originally introduced for the case of the \(A_l\) system in [\textit{A. Esterov}, Compos. Math. 155, No. 2, 229--245 (2019; Zbl 1451.14152)] and developed in [\textit{I. M. Krichever}, Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 14, No. 4, 45--54 (1980; Zbl 0462.35080); \textit{O. K. Sheinman}, Current algebras on Riemann surfaces. New results and applications. Berlin: de Gruyter (2012; Zbl 1258.81002)] and [\textit{O. K. Sheinman}, Russ. Math. Surv. 71, No. 1, 109--156 (2016; Zbl 1395.17047); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 71, No. 1, 117--168 (2016)]. This paper is organized as follows. Section 1 is an introduction to the subject. In Section 2, the author describes the class of spectral curves of Hitchin systems with hyperelliptic base curve and arbitrary semisimple Lie algebra. Section 3 deals with separation of Variables for Hyperelliptic Hitchin Systems. Section 4 is devoted to some concluding Remarks.
