The author is concerned with the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a defocusing quintic nonlinearity \[i\partial_t u+\partial_x^2 u=|u|^4u, \quad t\in \mathbb{R},\, x\in \mathbb{T}_L=[-L/2, L/2],\] where \(L>0\), \(u=u(t,x): \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}_L \mapsto \mathbb{C}\) is a complex-valued function and the spatial domain \(\mathbb{T}_L\) is a torus of length \(L\). By obtaining the dynamics in a toy model of nonlinear Schrödinger equations along with error estimates between finite-dimensional model and the full infinite-dimensional model, the author proves the existence of solutions which are initially excited in multi-frequency modes, where the mass is localized and involves conservative energy exchange between the modes initially excited.
