In the paper, the author considers a specific variant of a phase field system. The examined model consists of a Cahn-Hilliard equation governing the evolution of a phase variable, that takes into account the tumor cells proliferation in the tissue, coupled with a reaction-diffusion equation for the nutrient. By the use of an asymptotic scheme, well-posedness and long-time behavior of the model has been investigated. The same scheme is implemented to deduce necessary conditions of optimality for a control problem with a square quality criterion. The solution existence theorem for this problem is proved in the final part of the paper.
