The following now classical problem was raised in [\textit{C. Ciliberto} and \textit{R. Lazarsfeld}, Lect. Notes Math. 1092, 198--213 (1984; Zbl 0548.14016)]: Let \(C\subset \mathbb {P}^r\) be a smooth, connected and non-degenerate curve of degree \(d\); are all base point free \(g^x_t\) with \(t\le d\) related to the \(g^r_d\) embedding the curve? In certain ranges positive nswers are known for complete intersection curves and for curves in a \(K3\) surface \(S\) with \(\mathrm{Pic}(S)\cong \mathbb{Z}\). Here the author (using Reider's method) handles the case of curves on a \(K3\) surface with \(\mathrm{Pic}(S)\cong \mathbb{Z}^2\) and prove the following theorem. Let \(S\subset \mathbb{P}^{n+1}\) be a smooth \(K3\) surface of degree \(2n\) with \(\mathrm{Pic}(S) \cong \mathrm{Z}H\oplus \mathrm{Z}\Gamma\), where \(\Gamma\) is the class of a line and \(H\) is a hyperplane section. Let \(C\subset S\) be a smooth and connected curve of degree \(d_0\) and genus \(g_0\) such that \(C\cdot \Gamma < d_0/2n\). Then any degree \(d\) divisor on \(C\) moving in a base point free linear system is contained in a hyperplane section of \(C\) if \(d \le \min\{g_0/2-1,d_0 -\frac{\sqrt{4n+1}-1}{2}C\cdot \Gamma\}\). The author gives several corollaries and examples for which the results are sharp.
