The book concerns the so called switched dynamical systems and the associated problems of stability and feedback stabilization. The switched systems are useful in modeling real time dynamics by a finite set of subsystems and a switching law which can be ``free'' (natural) or controlled. There are several challenges of the study of these systems but a fundamental one is possible instability of the system composed of stable subsystems and possible stability (stabilization) of the overall system containing some unstable subsystems. These properties are strongly dependent of the dwell time of the commutation signal. Another property taken into study is the finite time stabilization. As a consequence, the book is structured as follows. After the Introduction (1st Chapter), 3 chapters follow, concerned with Global Finite Time Stabilization of Switched Nonlinear Systems (Ch. 2 The case of the Lower Triangular Form. Ch. 3 The case of the Powers of Positive Odd Rational Numbers. Ch. 4 The case of the Non-Triangular Form). The next case, discussed in Ch. 5, is Adaptive Finite Time Stabilization of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems via Logic Based Switchings. Ch. 6 deals with Dwell-Time Based Standard \(H_\infty\) Control of Switched Systems without Requiring Internal Stability of Subsystems. The closing Ch. 7 deals with Observer Design for Unknown Inputs Switched Linear Systems without Requiring Strong Detectability of Subsystems. Each chapter has its own list of references. The book contains mathematical results and simulations based, in general, on examples having academic character. While giving a motivating engineering example in the Introduction, the book does not follow this direction. It is nevertheless interesting and stimulating for mathematical and theoretical engineering research.
