The authors study the regularity of weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic and parabolic equations with non-standard \((p, q)\) growth. Such properties as the local boundedness of weak solutions, their continuity, and the Harnack inequality for positive solutions are indispensable in the qualitative theory of second-order elliptic and parabolic equations. In this paper the authors make an attempt to unify the De Giorgi approach to establish the local regularity of solutions to elliptic and parabolic equations with nonstandard growth. We recall that parabolic equations and systems with a variable growth exponent \(p(x, t)\) were introduced by Marcellini and were studied intensively in the last years because equations of this type and systems of such equations arise in various problems of mathematical physics.
