The authors give sharp and comprehensive regularity theorems for minimizers of the class of integral functionals \[ W^{1,1}(\Omega)\ni w\to {\mathcal F}(w,\Omega):=\displaystyle\int_{\Omega}F(x,w,Dw)\,dx, \] where \(F:\Omega\times \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^n\to\mathbb{R}\) is a Carathéodory integrand which satisfies the double-sided bound \[ \nu H(x,z)\leq F(x,v,z)\leq L H(x,z), \] for constants \(0<\nu\leq L\). New methods and proofs which are suitable for building regularity theorems for larger classes of non-autonomous functionals are also presented. Some new interpolation type effects naturally connecting with the Lavrentiev phenomenon are finally addressed.
