It is well known that von Neumann regular rings, rings of operators and Leavitt path algebras are typical, natural examples justifying the fact that one cannot restrict ring theory to one of unital rings. This work is one evidence more to this obvious fact. In particular, this work contributes to interactions between unital von Neumann regular rings and certain well-defined not necessarily unital rings constructed by using strong group-gradings and directed graphs. By establishing characterizations of group-graded von Neumann regular rings in Theorems 1.2 and 1.4, the author deduces several interesting consequences for Leavitt path algebras over not necessarily commutative rings of coefficients. It is worth to note that the ring of coefficients which is not necessarily commutative, is assumed to be commuting with the considered generators. This results contains room for further study.
