The problem of finding necessary and sufficient conditions for a normed space to be an inner product space has been studied by numerous researchers. In the present article the authors deal with a class of norm inequalities closely connected with characterizations of inner product spaces. One of the most interesting characterizations is based on the so-called Dunkl-Wiliams inequality. The authors study interesting characterizations of real inner product spaces expressed in terms of angular distances. The equivalence of characterizing an inner product space via the usual angular distance and the $p$-angular distance are discussed. Then, a parametric family of upper bounds for the usual angular distance are established, which also serves as a characterization of inner product spaces. As an application, bounds for the usual angular distance are utilized in order to obtain improvements of the real Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Finally, several comparative relations for angular distances in inner product spaces are given. It is an interesting paper. It is useful to researchers working in the area of inner product spaces with norm inequalities. Many avenues are present in this article.
