For nonzero vectors \(x, y\) in a real normed space \((X, \|\cdot\|)\), the angular distance is defined by \(\alpha[x,y]=\left\|\frac{x}{\|x\|}-\frac{y}{\|y\|}\right\|\), which can be used to give some characterizations of inner product spaces; see \textit{F. Dadipour} and \textit{M. S. Moslehian} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 371, No. 2, 677--681 (2010; Zbl 1206.46025)]. In the paper under review the author first presents a refinement of the triangle inequality in normed linear spaces and introduces the notion of skew-angular distance \(\beta[x,y]=\left\|\frac{x}{\|y\|}-\frac{y}{\|x\|}\right\|\). Next, he shows that \(X\) is an inner product space if and only if \(\alpha[x,y] \leq \beta[x,y]\) for all non-zero elements \(x, y \in X\); see \textit{F. Dadipour}, \textit{M. S. Moslehian}, \textit{J. M. Rassias} and \textit{S.-E. Takahasi} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 75, No. 2, 735--741 (2012; Zbl 1242.46029)] and references cited therein.
