A closed, bounded, convex subset \(C\) of a Banach space has has the \textit{generic fixed point property} for a class of mappings if every map from a closed convex subset of \(C\) into itself belonging to the class has a fixed point. \textit{T. D. Benavides} et al. [J. Funct. Anal. 209, No. 1, 1--15 (2004; Zbl 1062.46017)] showed that a nonempty, closed, bounded, convex subset of a Banach space is weakly compact if and only if the set has the generic fixed point property for continuous affine mappings; and that, with more specific geometric information about the Banach space, the class of continuous affine mappings can sometimes be replaced by smaller classes of affine mappings. In the article under review, the authors also relate the weak compactness of sets in a Banach space with the generic fixed point property for some classes of affine Lipschitz mappings. For example, if \(C\) is a nonempty subset of a Banach space \(X\), a mapping \(f:C\to X\) is \textit{uniformly bi-Lipschitzian with constant} \(L\geq 1\) if there exist constants \(c_1, c_2>0\) with \(c_1/c_2 \leq L\) such that \[ c_1 \| x-y\| \leq \|f^n(x) - f^n(y)\| \leq c_2 \| x-y\|\ \ \text{for all \(x,y\in C\) and \(n\in \mathbb{N}\)}; \] and \(f\) is said to be an \(L\)-\textit{bi-Lipschitz mapping} if the above inequalities hold for \(n=1\).The authors prove that a nonempty, closed, bounded, convex subset \(C\) of a Banach space is weakly compact if and only if \(C\) has the generic fixed point property for \(L\)-bi-Lipschitz affine mappings for every \(L>1\). The authors also introduce a geometric property more general than Pełczyński's property \((u)\) and show that, if \(C\) is a closed, bounded, convex subset of a Banach space with this property, \(C\) is weakly compact if and only if \(C\) has the generic fixed point property for the class of uniformly bi-Lipschitzian affine mappings \(f\) with \(\inf \{ \displaystyle\liminf_{n\to\infty} \|x - f^n(y)\|:x,y\in C \} = 0\).
