The so-called Jackson inequalities are giving optimal error estimates of approximations, e.g. in the \(L^2\) norm, for instance from trigonometric polynomials or exponential growth at most \(\sigma\). On the right-hand sides of the error bounds with best constants, moduli of smoothness with respect to \(L^2\) are used. In this article the author gives an generalisation of these inequalities by approximation by splines of a certain degree with minimal defect and equally spaced knots.
