In the paper, the alienation problems of the Drygas and the Cauchy functional equations are investigated. The following two definitions, coming from [\textit{J. Dhombres}, Aequationes Math. 35, No. 2--3, 186--212 (1988; Zbl 0654.39003)], can be used. Definition. Let $E(f)$ and $G(f)$ be two functional equations where $X$ and $Y$ are non-empty sets and $f$ is an unknown function. The functional equations $E(f)=0$ and $G(f) = 0$ are alien if any solution $f$ from $X$ into $Y$ of the functional equation $E(f) + G(f) = 0$ is a solution of the system of equations. Definition. Let $E(f) = 0$ and $G(g) = 0$ be two functional equations for $f,g: X \to Y.$ The functional equations are strongly alien, if any solution $f,g$ of the functional equation $E(f) + G(g) = 0$ is a solution of the system of equations $E(f)= 0, G(g)= 0$.
