In this paper, the authors show that for a \(C^\infty\)-generic metric \(g\) on a closed manifold \(M^{n+1}\) of dimension \(3 \le n+1 \le 7\), to any connected, closed, embedded, 2-sided, stable, minimal hypersurface \(S \subset (M,g)\) corresponds a sequence of closed, embedded, minimal hypersurfaces \(\lbrace \Sigma_k\rbrace\) scarring along \(S\), in the sense that the area and Morse index of \(\Sigma_k\) both diverge to infinity and, when properly renormalized, \(\Sigma_k\) converges to \(S\) as varifolds. They also show that scarring of immersed minimal surfaces along stable surfaces occurs in most closed Riemannian 3-manifods. The main theorems of this paper about generic scarring are: \textbf{Theorem 0.1 (Generic scarring)}. Let \(M^{n+1}\) be a closed manifold of dimension \(3 \le n+ 1 \le 7\). For a \(C^\infty\)-generic metric \(g\) on \(M\) in the sense of Baire, the following holds. For any connected, closed, embedded, 2-sided, minimal hypersurface \(S \subset (M,g)\) which is stable, there is a sequence of closed, embedded, minimal hypersurfaces \(\lbrace \Sigma_k\rbrace\) with the following properties: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] \(\Sigma_k \cap S = \varnothing\), \item[(ii)] \(\lim_{k\to\infty} \|\Sigma_k\| = \infty\), \item[(iii)] \(\lim_{k\to\infty} \mathrm{Index}(\Sigma_k)\|\Sigma_k\|^{-1} = \|S\|^{-1}\), \item[(iv)] \(\mathbf{F}\left(\frac{[S]}{\|S\|}, \frac{[\Sigma_k]}{\|\Sigma_k\|}\right)\le\frac{1}{log(\|\Sigma_k\|)}\). \end{itemize} \textbf{Theorem 0.3 (Generic scarring in dimension 3)}. Let \(M^3\) be a closed \(3\)-manifold which is not diffeomorphic to a spherical quotient \(S^3/\Gamma\). Then for a \(C^\infty\)-generic metric \(g\) on \(M\), there is a sequence of connected, closed, immersed, minimal surfaces \(\lbrace \Sigma_k\rbrace\) such that their Morse index and the area of their images both diverge to infinity, and \[ \lim_{k\to 0}\mathbf{F}\left(\frac{[S]}{||S||}, \frac{[\Sigma_k]}{\|\Sigma_k\|}\right)=0 \] for some connected, closed, immersed, stable minimal surface \(S \subset (M,g)\).
