In this paper, the authors study an approximation of the mild solutions for the following semilinear abstract problem with delay defined on a Banach space \(X\): \[ \begin{cases} y^{\prime}(t)=Ay(t)+f(t,y(t-r)),\quad t \geq 0,\\ y(t)=\varphi(t), \quad t\in [-r,0], \end{cases} \] where \(A\) is an unbounded closed linear operator generating a \(C_0\)-semigroup, \(f : \mathbb{R}_+ \times X \to X\) is jointly continuous and Lipschitz continuous on the second variable, \(r\) is a fixed positive number, and \(\varphi\) is a continuous function from \([-r, 0]\) to \(X\). The approximation considers the mild solutions \((z_{\delta})_{{\delta}>0}\) of the corresponding family of differential equations with piecewise constant argument, namely, \[ \begin{cases} z_{\delta}^{\prime}(t)=Az_{\delta}(t)+f(t,z_{\delta}(\gamma_{\delta}(t-r))),\quad t \geq 0,\\ z_{\delta}(t)=\varphi(j\delta), \quad t\in [j\delta,(j+1)\delta), \quad j=-k,\dots,0, \end{cases} \] varying the semilinear term with a parameter \(\delta\). The authors give necessary conditions which ensure uniform convergence of \(z_{\delta}\) to a solution \(y\) as \(\delta \to 0\), on compact and unbounded intervals. Also, the authors obtain explicit exponential decay estimates for the error function using the stability of the semigroup and the Halanay's inequality. Finally, with a new idea and method, the authors prove that the approximation is stable and there exists a preservation of asymptotic stability between the solution of delayed differential equation and its corresponding difference equation, obtained by piecewise constant argument.
