A Borel probability measure \(\mu\) on the real line is called a spectral measure if there is a set of exponential functions that forms an orthogonal basis for \(L^2(\mu)\). In the paper a necessary and sufficient condition for a class of selfsimilar measures with consecutive digits to be spectral is given. This partially answers a conjecture in [\textit{C.-K. Lai} and \textit{Y. Wang}, J. Fractal Geom. 4, No. 3, 305--327 (2017; Zbl 1377.28003)].
