The authors investigated suitable conditions to ensure Sobolev type inequalities for weighted spaces. The existence of extremal functions for the best constant related with theses inequalities is also investigated. Precisely, let \(1<p<\infty\), \(0<q<\infty \) and \(k, N\in\mathbb{N}\) with \(1\le k\le N\) and let \(\Omega=\Omega_1\times\Omega_2\) be a open set in \(\mathbb{R}^{k}\times\mathbb{R}^{N-k}\). Conditions on the parameters \(p\), \(q\), \(k\), \(N\) and on the function \(g\) to ensure the existence of a constant \(C>0\) such that \[ \left(\int_{\Omega}|g(y,z)||u(y,z)|^{q}dydz\right)^{\frac{1}{q}}\le C\left(\int_{\Omega}|\nabla u(y,z)|^{p}dydz\right)^{\frac{1}{p}}, \;\; u\in \mathcal{C}^{1}_{c}(\Omega) \] were obtained. In particular, the authors have identified various pairs of Lorentz spaces, Lorentz-Zygmund spaces and weighted Lebesgue spaces for \(g(x)=g_1(y)g_2(z),\) with \(x=(y,z)\) so that the above inequality holds. In addition, a sufficient condition on \(g_1\) and \(g_2\) so that the best constant is attained in the Beppo-Levi space \(\mathcal{D}^{1,2}(\Omega)\), the completion of \( \mathcal{C}^{1}_{c}(\Omega)\) with respect to \(\|\nabla u\|_{L^{p}(\Omega)}\), is also obtained.
