    The well-known Besov spaces \(B^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) with \(s\in \mathbb R\) and \(0<p,q \le \infty\) have been generalized by the Besov-Morrey spaces \({\mathcal N}^s_{u,p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) replacing in the classical Fourier-analytical definition of \(B^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) the basic Lebesgue spaces \(L_p (\mathbb R^n)\) by the more general Morrey spaces \({\mathcal M}_{u,p} (\mathbb R^n)\), \(0<p \le u <\infty\), quasi-normed by \[ \| f \, | {\mathcal M}_{u,p} (\mathbb R^n) \| = \sup |Q|^{\frac{1}{u} - \frac{1}{p}} \Big( \int_Q |f(y)|^p \, dy \Big)^{1/p} \] where the supremum is taken over all cubes \(Q\) in \(\mathbb R^n\). In the paper \(|Q|^{\frac{1}{u} - \frac{1}{p}}\) is generalized by \(\varphi \big( |Q|^{1/n} \big) |Q|^{-\frac{1}{p}}\) where \(\varphi(t)\), \(t>0\), is a suitable function. On this basis generalized Besov-Morrey spaces \({\mathcal N}^s_{\varphi, p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) are introduced. The paper deals first with wavelet characterizations of these spaces via related sequence spaces (Theorem~3.1). This in turn is used to study in detail embeddings between these spaces both for the related sequence spaces and the corresponding function spaces. Relations to the classical spaces \(B^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) are studied in addition.
