This paper is devoted to study ergodic optimisation problems for almost-additive sequences of functions (rather than a fixed potential) defined over countable Markov shifts (that is a non-compact space). The notion of Gibbs state for continuous functions was extended to the case of almost-additive sequences by Barreira and Mummert. It is similar to the notion of a Gibbs state for fixed continuous potential functions. The paper considers the existence and uniqueness of a Gibbs equilibrium state for almost-additive sequences. Moreover, under certain assumptions, the authors prove that any accumulation point of a family of Gibbs equilibrium states is a maximising measure (Theorems 2.1 and 2.2). Applications are given in the study of the joint spectral radius and to the multifractal analysis of the Lyapunov exponents of non-conformal maps. These can be found in Section 5 and 6, respectively.
