This paper is devoted to the solvability of the boundary value problem \[ \begin{gathered}-x''(t)+k^2x(t)=m(t)f(t,x(t)),\;\;t\in I,\\x(0)=\theta,\;\lim_{t\to+\infty}x(t)=\theta,\end{gathered} \] where \(k\in \mathbb R,\) \(I=(0,+\infty),\) \(\theta\) is the zero of a Banach space \(E,\) the function \(m\in C(I,\mathbb R^+)\) may be such that \(\lim_{t\to0}m(t)=+\infty\), and \(f\in C(I\times P,P),\) where \(P\) is a normal cone of \(E,\) that is, \(P\) is a nonempty cone of \(E\) for which there is a positive constant \(\xi\) such that \(||u+v||\geq\xi\) for all \(u,v\in P\) with \(||u||=||v||=1.\) Besides, for each \(r>0\) and each subinterval \([c,d]\subset I\) the function \(f(t,x)\) is uniformly continuous on \([c,d]\times B_E(\theta,r),\) where \(B_E(\theta,r)=\{x\in E:||x||\leq r\}.\) It is assumed also that there exist functions \(a,b\in C(I,\mathbb R^+),\) real numbers \(p>0\) and \(w\geq k\) and a nonnegative function \(l\in L^1(J),\) for every bounded subinterval \(J\subset I,\) such that \[ \begin{gathered}||f(t,x)||_E\leq a(t)||x||^p_E+b(t)\;\;\text{for all}\;t\in I\;\text{and}\; x\in P,\\ \int^{+\infty}_0m(t)b(t)dt<\infty,\quad\int^{+\infty}_0 e^{pwt}m(t)a(t)dt<\infty, \\ \int_{J} e^{(w-k)t}m(t)l(t)dt<2k, \\ \alpha(f(t,B))\leq l(t)\alpha(B)\;\text{for}\;t\in J\;\text{and every bounded subset}\; B\subset E,\end{gathered} \] where \(\alpha\) is the Kuratowski measure of noncompactness in \(E,\) the integrals \[ M_1=\int^{\infty}_0e^{-ks}b(s)G(s,s)m(s)ds\;\text{and}\;M_2=\int^{\infty}_0e^{(pw-k)s}a(s)G(s,s)m(s)ds \] are convergent and there is a constant \(M>0\) such that \(M_1+M_2M^p<M;\) here \(G\) is the Green's function of the boundary value problem in the case when the right side of the equation is a function \(v\in C(I,P)\) for which \(\int^{+\infty}_0v(t)dt\) exists. Assuming in addition that one of the following conditions hold \[ \lim_{||x||_E\to0}\inf\min_{t\in[\gamma,\delta]}\frac{\Psi(f(t,x))}{||x||_E}\geq\lambda\;\text{for all}\;\Psi\in P'\;\text{with}\;||\Psi||=1 \] and \[ \lim_{||x||_E\to+\infty}\inf\min_{t\in[\gamma,\delta]}\frac{\Psi(f(t,x))}{||x||_E}\geq\lambda\;\text{for all}\;\Psi\in P'\;\text{with}\;||\Psi||=1, \] where \(\delta>\gamma>0\) are fixed numbers, the constant \(\lambda>0\) is sufficiently large, and \(P'\) is the dual cone of \(P,\) the authors formulate a result guaranteeing at least one solution \(x\in C^1([0,+\infty),E)\cap C^2((0,+\infty),E)\) with \(x(t)\geq\theta\) on \([0,+\infty).\) Another result guarantees at least two positive solutions if the last two conditions are fulfiled simultaniosly. The proofs are based on the Krasnosel'skii fixed point theorem in cones for strict set-contractions.
