A limited subset \(A\) of a Banach space \(X\) can be characterized in the following way: For every weak\(^\ast\) null sequence \((x^\ast_n)\) in \(X^\ast\) there exists a sequence \((\alpha_n)\) in \(c_0\) such that \(|x^\ast_n(x)|\leq \alpha_n\) for all \(x\in A\) and \(n\in\mathbb{N}\). It is not hard to see that every relatively norm compact set is limited. However, the converse is not true -- R. S. Phillips gave an example of a limited set which is not relatively compact (see [\textit{R. S. Phillips}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 48, 516--541 (1940; Zbl 0025.34202)]). Recently, \textit{A. K. Karn} and \textit{D. P. Sinha} have introduced the notion of a \(p\)-limited set [Glasg. Math. J. 56, No. 2, 427--437 (2014; Zbl 1301.46004)]. A subset \(A\) of a Banach space \(X\) is said to be \(p\)-limited if for every weakly \(p\)-summable sequence \((x^\ast_n)\) in \(X^\ast\) there exists a sequence \((\alpha_n)\) in \(\ell_p\) such that \(|x^\ast_n(x)|\leq \alpha_n\) for all \(x\in A\) and \(n\in\mathbb{N}\). Observe that limited sets could be viewed as \(\infty\)-limited sets. In this paper the authors study the connection between \(p\)-limited sets and \(p\)-compact sets introduced in [\textit{D. P. Sinha and A. K. Karn}, Stud. Math. 150, No. 1, 17--33 (2002; Zbl 1008.46008)]. They start by showing that every \(p\)-limited set is \(q\)-limited whenever \(1\leq p\leq q<\infty\). On the other hand, if \(2\leq p<q<\infty\) and every \(q\)-limited set is \(p\)-limited, then the space must be finite-dimensional. They characterize operators with \(p\)-summing adjoint as exactly the ones mapping relatively compact subsets to relatively \(p\)-compact subsets. The authors finish the note with some remarks on the Gelfand-Phillips property of order \(p\).
