Let \(E\) and \(F\) be real normed linear spaces. A well-known theorem of Ulam states that, if \(V: E \rightarrow F\) is a surjective isometry, i.e., \(\|Vx-Vy\|=\|x-y\|\) for all \(x,y \in E\), then it is an affine map. A question now is, when is \(V\) linear, i.e., positively homogeneous? Let \(S(E)\) denote the unit sphere. In this paper, the author shows that, if \(V|S(E)\) is an isometry onto \(S(F)\), then \(V\) is linear.
