In Lie algebra theory the classical theorem of Engel asserts that any Lie algebra having all the elements nilpotent matrices has a common eigenvector. The main goal of this note is to prove a similar result for Lie algebras within the symmetric monoidal category of corepresentations of a cotriangular Hopf algebra \((H, \beta)\). A stronger version for this theorem is given in the case when \((H, \beta)\) is a cosemisimple cotriangular Hopf algebra.
