In this paper the author gives detailed proofs of results concerning certain properties of polyhedra. Although many of the statements are well-known, their proofs are hard to find elsewhere and in some cases no explicit proof appears in the literature. Classical results that are established in the article are for instance the following: every polyhedron is a perfectly normal space; two subdivisions of a simplicial complex have a common subdivision; any open subset of a polyhedron is again a polyhedron; results related to the notion of small inductive dimension. These results are then used to give a topological characterization of the notion of admissibility for simplicial complexes and to prove that a pseudomanifold is normal if and only if it is admissible. The results contained in the article were used but not proved in previous works of the same author on the theory of harmonic maps defined on admissible Riemannian polyhedra.
