Let \(E\) be a Hilbert space, \(\eta \) be a local flow generated by a Leray-Schauder vector-field on \(E.\) If \(S= \) Inv \(\Omega\) is an isolated invariant set of \(\eta\) with isolating neighbourhood \(\Omega\) then the \(E\)-cohomology \(H^*_E(X, A)\) (see [\textit{A. Abbondandolo}, Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 9, No. 2, 325--382 (1997; Zbl 0906.58007)]) of any index pair of \(S\) possesses a module structure over \(H^*_0(\Omega)\). This fact allows the authors to introduce the cup-lenght \(CL(S,\Omega,\eta)\) of an isolated invariant set, which in the case of gradient flows provides a lover bound for the number of critical values of the associated functional. Using the above estimate the authors give a short proof of the Arnold conjecture on \(T^n,\) proved by \textit{C. C. Conley} and \textit{E. Zehnder} [Invent. Math. 73, 33--49 (1983; Zbl 0516.58017)] using the Conley index in finite dimensions.
