The idea of collective dynamics was introduced by \textit{V. Guillemin} and \textit{S. Sternberg} [Ann. Phys. 127, 220--253 (1980; Zbl 0453.58015)] in 1980 as a way to describe Hamiltonian systems of particles with a rigid body type dynamics. Given a Poisson manifold \(P\) with some right action of a Lie group of Lie algebra \(\ g\) and associated equivariant momentum map \(M: P\rightarrow g^*\), a collective Hamiltonian is a function \(h: g^*\rightarrow \mathbb R\) such that \(h\circ M=H\) for some Hamiltonian function \(H:P\rightarrow \mathbb R\). The aim of this article is to find a collective dynamics representation of heavy top Hamiltonians in order to map symplectic integrators for some Hamiltonian system \((P,H)\) to heavy top Hamiltonian systems on \(( g^*,h)\). In this case, \(P=T^*\mathbb C^2\) with the canonical symplectic structure, and \( g=\mathrm{se}(3)\), while \(M=\varpi \circ L\), being \(L:T^*\mathbb C^2 \rightarrow (\mathbb C^2\rtimes \mathrm{su}(2))^*\) the momentum map associated with the action of \(\mathbb C^2 \rtimes \mathrm{SU}(2)\) and \(\varpi : (\mathbb C^2\rtimes \mathrm{su}(2))^*\rightarrow \mathrm{se}(3)^*\), a Poisson map identifying the two dual Lie algebras. Casimirs and other conserved quantities of the heavy top are traced back to corresponding symmetries of \((P,H)\). As an example, the numerical results of a symplectic integrator defined for \((P,H)\) are mapped via \(M\) to the Kovalevskaya top and compared with other non-symplectic integrators, showing evidences of a more faithful representation of the Kovalevskaya's constants of motion provided by symplectic integrators.
