This paper deals with three reductions to the pair of quasi-linear PDEs, \(\eta_t+(\eta u)_x =0\) and \(u_t+uu_x+\eta_x=0\). The first reduction leads to a 5-dimensional system of ODEs whose polynomial solutions are of the form \(\eta(x,t)=\gamma(t) x^2+\omega(t)x+\zeta(t)\) and \(u(x,t)=\alpha(t)x+\beta(t)\). The second reduction gives a 3-dimensional system of ODEs whose parabolic-linear solutions are of the form \(\eta(x,t)=\gamma(t) x^2+\zeta(t)\) and \(u(x,t)=\alpha(t)x\). The third reduction gives a 4-dimensional system of ODEs whose linear-linear solutions are of the form \(\eta(x,t)=\omega(t)x+\zeta(t)\) and \(u(x,t)=\alpha(t)x+\beta(t)\). The 5-field system is solved by using its conserved quantities, the 3-field system is solved by reduction, while the 4-field system is solved by a straightforward inductive process. The bi-Hamiltonian structure of each system is studied by using the Lenard-Magri scheme.
