      The authors consider the following semiclassical Schrödinger system \(-\varepsilon^2 \Delta u+u+V(x)v=Q(x)F_v(u,v)\), \(x\in \mathbb{R}^N\), \(-\varepsilon^2 \Delta v+v+V(x)u=Q(x)F_u(u,v)\), \(x\in \mathbb{R}^N\), and \(|u(x)|+|v(x)|\to 0\) as \(|x|\to\infty\), where the potentials \(V(x)\) and \(Q(x)\) are two continuous functions on \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(V(x)\) is allowed to be sign-changing and \(Q(x)\) is positive, \(F\) satisfies some general nonlinear conditions. The main characterization of such a system is that the corresponding energy functional is strongly indefinite. The authors show that, there exists some \(\varepsilon_0>0\) such that the above system has at least one ground state solution for \(\varepsilon\in (0,\varepsilon_0]\) via variational methods.
