In the paper under the review, the author studies representations of groups \(\mathrm{GL}(2n, F)\) and \(\mathrm{SL}(2n, F)\) that are distinguished by a symplectic subgroup \(\mathrm{Sp}(2n, F)\), where \(F\) denotes a non-archimedean local field. We note that it is a conjecture of \textit{S. Dijols} and \textit{D. Prasad} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 372, No. 3, 1833--1866 (2019; Zbl 1427.22017)] that for an irreducible \(\mathrm{Sp}(2n, F)\)-distinguished representation of \(\mathrm{GL}(2n, F)\) the Zelevinsky and the symplectic components coinside. The author proves this conjecture for Speh representations over a non-archimedean local field \(F\) of arbitrary characteristic and for ladder representations over a non-archimedean local field \(F\) of characteristic zero. It is also proved that if \(\pi_i\) is \(\mathrm{Sp}(2n_i, F)\)-distinguished representation of \(\mathrm{GL}(2n_i, F)\), for \(i = 1, 2, \ldots, k\), and \(\pi = \pi_1 \times \pi_2 \times \cdots \times \pi_k\), then the opposite (highest) derivative of the opposite (highest) derivative of \(\pi\) is distinguished by the symplectic group. A sufficient condition for a standard module for the general linear group to be distinguished by the symplectic group is also obtained.
