The main result of this work consists in proving the existence of exponential time decay of the density matrix, which solves a drift-diffusion-Poisson model for the spin-polarized electron transport in semiconductors, to the spinless near-equilibrium steady state if the system was initially close to equilibrium and the relaxation time is small, too. The method of treatment is based on removing cross-diffusion terms via the proposed projections of the density matrix relative to the precession vector.
