The paper deals with commuting \(n\)-tuples of Hilbert-space operators, in particular, with \(\Gamma_n\)-contractions and \(\mathbb{E}\)-contractions, whose definitions are given in terms of specific types of spectral sets (Definition 1.2) -- commuting \(n\)-tuples of operators for which a certain symmetrized polydisc and a tetrablock serve as spectral sets. Particular cases of unitary and isometric cases are also and specifically investigated. The starting point involves a collection of well-known decomposition theorems for Hilbert-space contractions (mainly related to unitary, isometric, completely nonunitary or nonisometric contractions). This is developed towards the above setup for \(n\)-tuples. Extensions of those decomposition results are investigated and commented upon in Sections 4 and 5, where the main theorems on such extensions are properly stated, proved and compared among themselves. Although the article belongs to realm of operator theory, the authors call attention to motivations on synthesis problems related to control theory.
