A generalized complex structure on a smooth manifold \(M\) is defined as a complex structure \(J\), not on the tangent bundle \(T\), but on the sum \(T\oplus T^*\) of the tangent and cotangent bundles. This complex structure is required to be orthogonal with respect to the natural inner product on sections \(X+\xi,Y+\eta\in C^\infty(T\oplus T^*)\) defined by \(\langle X+\xi,Y+\eta\rangle=\xi(Y)+\eta(X)\). In addition, the \(+i\)-eigenbundle \(L \subset (T\oplus T^*)\otimes \mathbb{C}\) of \(J\) is required to be involutive with respect to the Courant bracket, a skew bracket operation on smooth sections of \(T\oplus T^*\) defined by \([X+\xi,Y+\eta]=[X,Y]+L_X\eta-L_Y\xi -\tfrac{1}{2}d(i_X\eta-i_Y\xi)\). A generalized Kähler structure is a pair of commuting complex structures \((J_1,J_2)\) on the vector bundle \(T\oplus T^*\) over the manifold \(M\), such that \(\langle J_1 J_2 v,v\rangle>0\) for \(v\in T\oplus T^* \setminus \{0\}\). The generalized geometry of this paper starts with the idea of replacing tangent bundles \(T\oplus T^*\) by exact Courant algebroids. The Courant algebroid is a real vector bundle \(E\) equipped with a so-called Courant bracket \([\cdot,\cdot]\), a nondegenerate inner product \(\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle\), and a bundle map \(\pi: E \to T\) called the anchor satisfying a few additional conditions. \(E\) is called exact if the sequence \(0\to T^* \to E \to T\to 0\) is exact. A generalized complex (GC) structure on a Courant algebroid \(E\) is a complex structure \(\mathbb{J}\) on \(E\) orthogonal w.r.t. the inner product and its \(+i\)-eigenbundle \(L \subset E\otimes \mathbb{C}\) is involutive under the Courant bracket. The paper clarifies some subtle points surrounding the definition of scalar curvature in generalized Kähler (GK) geometry. The author solves an open problem in GK geometry of symplectic type posed by R. Goto on relating the scalar curvature defined in terms of generalized pure spinors directly to the underlying bi-Hermitian structure. In particular, the author applies this solution to toric GK geometry of symplectic type and proves that the scalar curvature suggested in this setting by \textit{L. Boulanger} [Sur une classe de structures kählériennes généralisées toriques. Université de Montréal (PhD Thesis) (2015)] coincides with Goto's definition.
