Let \(G\) be a locally compact group, let \(\varOmega :G\times G\to \mathbb{C}^*\) be a 2-cocycle, and let \(\circledast\) denote the twisted convolution coming from \(\varOmega\). It is known that if \((\varPhi, \varPsi)\) is a complementary pair of strictly increasing continuous Young functions and \[ |\varOmega (s, t)| \le u(s) + v(t), \quad (s, t \in G) \] for some \(u,\) \(v\in L^{\varPsi}(G)\), then \((L^\varPhi (G),\circledast )\) is a Banach algebra or a Banach \(*\)-algebra, and moreover, if we can choose \(u,\) \(v\) in the inequality above in the subspace \(S^{\varPsi}(G)\) of \(L^{\varPsi}(G)\), then \((L^\varPhi (G),\circledast )\) is an Arens regular dual Banach algebra (cf. [the first two authors, Stud. Math. 236, No. 3, 271--296 (2017; Zbl 1368.43006); Math. Nachr. 292, No. 5, 1122--1136 (2019; Zbl 1419.43001)]). This paper shows that if \(\varPhi\) is continuous and strictly increasing, \(L^{\varPsi}(G)\subset L^2(G)\) and the inequality above is true for some \(u,\) \(v \in S^{\varPsi}(G)\), then \((L^\varPhi (G),\circledast )\) with the maximal operator space structure is completely isomorphic to an operator algebra.
