    The authors study the Monge-Ampère equation \(\det \nabla ^{2}u=\nu \) in \(\mathbb{R}^{2}\), where \(\nu \) is a locally finite Borel measure and \(d\nu =fdx\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{2}\) without some bounded open set \(\Omega \subseteq\mathbb{R}^{2}\). The authors make the following assumptions about \(f\): \(f\in C^{3}\left(\mathbb{R}^{2}\backslash\Omega \right)\), \(f>0\) and \(f\) satisfies the following asymptotic behavior at infinity, namely, for some \(\beta >2\), \(\overline{\lim}_{\left\vert x\right\vert \rightarrow \infty }\left\vert x\right\vert ^{\beta +j}\left\vert \nabla ^{j}\left( f\left( x\right) -1\right)\right\vert <\infty \), \(j=0,1,2,3\). The main result (Theorem 2) states that the above Monge-Ampère equation has a global solution with the prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity. Namely, given a linear function \(\ell \) and a \(2\times 2\) symmetric positive definite matrix \(A\) with \(\det \left( A\right) =1\), there is a unique solution \(u\) of the Monge-Ampère equation \(\det \nabla ^{2}u=\nu \) in \(\mathbb{R}^{2}\) satisfying the following asymptotic condition at infinity: \[\overline{\lim}_{\left\vert x\right\vert \rightarrow \infty }\left\vert x\right\vert^{\sigma +j}\left\vert \nabla ^{j}\left( u\left( x\right) -\left( \frac{1}{2}x^{T}Ax+\gamma \ln \sqrt{x^{T}Ax}+\ell \left( x\right) \right) \right)\right\vert <\infty, \] where \(j=0,1,2,3,4\), \(\sigma \in \left( 0,\min\left\{ \beta -2,2\right\} \right) \) and \(\gamma =\frac{1}{2\pi }\lim_{R\rightarrow \infty }\left( \int_{B_{R}}d\nu -\pi R^{2}\right)\). The authors employ the methods of the paper by \textit{L. Caffarelli} and \textit{Y. Li} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 56, No. 5, 549--583 (2003; Zbl 1236.35041)] to establish a similar result in higher dimensions (Theorem 3).
