The authors define the \(C^\ast\)-algebras \(\mathcal{SO}(\varphi)\) of slowly oscillating functions in the direction of filters \(\varphi\) on a locally compact topological group \(G\) and obtain various properties. They prove that \(\mathcal{SO}(\varphi)\) is an \(m\)-admissible subalgebra of \(C(G)\) if and only if the closure of the filter \(\varphi\) in the \({\mathcal{LUC}}\)-compactification \(G^{\mathcal{LUC}}\) of \(G\) is an ideal of \(G^{\mathcal{LUC}}\) and that the semigroup compactification of \(G\) determined by \(\mathcal{SO}(\varphi)\) always contains right zero elements. With these notions, the authors characterize a new interesting class of \(C^\ast\)-algebras of bounded continuous functions on \(G\). The spectrum of this \(C^\ast\)-algebra determines the universal semigroup compactification of \(G\) with respect to the property that the semigroup compactification contains a right zero element, and the topological center of this universal compactification is \(G\). The authors prove that every closed ideal of \(G^{\mathcal{LUC}}\) contained in \(U(G)\) can be decomposed into \(2^{2^{\mathcal{K}}}\) closed left ideals of \(G^{\mathcal{LUC}}\). Finally, they establish that the slowly oscillating functions determine the finest such decomposition under the assumption that the corresponding quotient space is Hausdorff.
